Satoshi Uematsu, the man who murdered 19 people with disabilities and injured 24 others in Kanagawa Prefecture in 2016 pleaded not guilty, Kyodo reports.
The 29-year-old admitted his crimes during the first hearing held at the Yokohama District Court. However, he alleged mental inability not to take responsibility for what he did.
His legal advice held that Uematu is not guilty because he suffered from a psychological disorder caused by marijuana use.
The crimes took place at a residence for people with disabilities in sagamihara city on July 26, 2016. (International Press)
