Less than 25% of young people in Japan have a partner

The population and number of births in Japan fall year by year. Fewer and fewer people are getting married. The country is experiencing a demographic crisis and the future looks bleak.

A survey conducted by the Japanese-to-Japanese online dating service O-net, who in 2020 will turn 20, reveals that only 23.3% of men have a girlfriend.

For women, the rate is higher: 35.9% have a boyfriend.

Couple life doesn't seem to arouse much enthusiasm among young people. Less than half of respondents (47.2% of men and 47.6% of women) want to have a romantic relationship in the future.

However, this does not necessarily mean that young people are not interested in "someday" marriage: 84.1% of women and 74.2% of men want to marry.

On the other hand, 55% of men and 66.3% of women have ever had a partner in their lives.

The survey was answered by 618 young people (equal number of women and men). (International Press)
