In his first public appearance following his escape from Japan, Carlos Ghosn reiterated his innocence during a press conference in Lebanon, Kyodo reported.
His arrest in Japan was a plot against him, said Ghosn, who described his conditions of detention as a "parody" against human rights.
In statements collected by AP, he assured that all accusations against him are false.
"I am not above the law and appreciate the opportunity for the truth to come forth and clear my name," he said.
Ghosn linked his arrest in Japan to his decision to merge Nissan with Renault. "Unfortunately there was no confidence. And some of our Japanese friends thought the only way to get rid of Renault at Nissan was to get rid of me," he said.
The former president of Nissan said the decision to escape Japan "was the hardest of my life." (International Press)
