Japan's Justice Minister Masako Mori called Carlos Ghosn's escape to Lebanon "unjustifiable" a crime.
Mori emphasized that his country's justice system guarantees basic human rights and that there is no reason to justify the flight of those on bail, AP reveals.
In his first public statement following his arrival in Lebanon, Ghosn said he had not escaped justice, but injustice, and criticized the Japanese judicial system for violating his human rights.
Although Japan does not have an extradition treaty with Lebanon, Mori said it is possible to request the extradition of criminals based on the principle of reciprocity."
On the other hand, the minister said Japan will strengthen exit controls from its territory and review bail conditions.
Mori declined to hold someone accountable for the former Nissan president's escape, claiming that the case is still under investigation. (International Press)
