A M-shaped roof and a wide 12-meter-wide platform are two of the most attractive features of the new Shibuya station on the Ginza line that opened on Friday.
The opening of the station was held with a ceremony amid the applause of Tokyo Metro workers for a play that began in 2009, reveals Jiji Press.
The modern station is capable of improvements to make it safer and more comfortable, noted Tokyo Metro President Akiyoshi Yamamura, who noted that the old station had a "confusing structure" and a narrow platform.
It is expected that from today it will be easier for passengers to transfer to and from lines such as Yamanote, Mainichi Shimbun highlights.
It is planned that by the time Tokyo 2020 starts the station will already have elevators and security gates on the platform.
A young metro user, notably the transfers will be easier, said the roof is elegant and foreigners will probably like it too. (International Press)
