Lawmaker Toshimitsu Funahashi, one of the six Japanese congressman involved in a bribery scandal involving the Chinese company 500.com, admitted a donation of 1 million yen ($9,100) from an executive company with Sapporo that sought to open a resort with a Silver in Hokkaido Province.
The company had an interest in participating in the Casino business with 500.com, Mainichi Shimbun revealed.
Funahashi is the second legislature to confirm the collection of money in relation to this scandal. The first is Mikio Shimoji. What put two apart, however, is that while later admitted that the money came from the Chinese company, the former refused it.
Funahashi commented that he never had to be cash from 500.com. However, Sapporo company gave him million yen in relation to the Chinese company for the Hokkaido Casino project.
The lawmaker said he received millions of yen from the company's CEO of Sapporo in a restaurant, and he doesn't remember if any Chinese business executives were present at the meeting.
Cash was delivered in Sep 2017 as a donation to an election campaign.
Funahashi said that he mistakenly allocated million yen as "borrowed money" in a political fund report and not a donation, and that he repaired it. (International press)
